Hello World!

Hello World!  This is our very first blog ever!  We are so excited!

Being that it is our first blog we will use it as an opportunity to introduce you to our agency!  Who is North Dakota Community Action Partnership?  We are a statewide non-profit organization that works with all eight Community Action Agencies across the state.  That brings us to our next question – what is Community Action?

Community Action Agencies are located all across the United States.  In fact, there are over 1,000 in operation today.  They were established under Lyndon Johnson’s administration to fight the War on Poverty.  To put it in a somewhat familiar perspective for you, Minnesota has 28 Community Action Agencies, South Dakota has four, and North Dakota has eight.

The eight Community Action Agencies in North Dakota are located in each of the major cities: Fargo, Grand Forks, Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Devils Lake, Jamestown, and Bismarck.  Collectively these agencies serve all 53 counties across the state and each offer a wide variety of programming based on the needs in their local regions.

North Dakota Community Action Partnership has the priviledge of working with each of these agencies on a daily basis!  We do a lot of activities on the statewide level such as advocacy, research, poverty trainings, and transportation coordination.  We also administer a matched savings program that you’ll hear more about in our next blog!

Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.

We are so excited to be a part of Area Voices!   Please leave us a comment or visit our website to learn more! www.capnd.org

Happy Wednesday!
